We are a cello and piano duo who loves to create an atmosphere of joy and beauty for weddings in and around Halifax. We enjoy collaborating with you to create a personal plan with ease and attention to detail. On your wedding day, we play from the heart. As an elegant duo using Classical instruments, our service has a unique quality to it –

Benjamin Marmen

Ben played in Symphony Nova Scotia as a section cellist for years, and has performed as a soloist with them as well as many other orchestras. He is not only a superb musician on the Classical stage but in the Maritime arts scene. Notably, he performed on stage with Natalie MacMaster at the ECMAs, and composed and performed a solo cello accompaniment to Shakespeare’s Macbeth at Neptune Theatre, which was nominated for Best New Score at Theatre Nova Scotia’s Robert Merritt Awards. Having recently completed his Master's degree in Musicology, Ben has a fresh passion for playing music and creating beauty wherever he can.

Lydia Marmen

Lydia has a Bachelor of Music Performance in Cello and RCM Grade 10 with Honours in piano. She has been playing wedding music for over 10 years, and always brings her best expertise and passion to managing The Halifax Wedding Cellist. Having studied composing and orchestration at a university level, Lydia creatively arranges songs from a variety of genres for the ideal wedding sound. She has a love for aesthetic details and strives for a warm rapport with clients and the most elegant results.
